Description
24 and 26 Castle Street are two small terraced houses built around the 1840s, featuring a central passageway. The front of the houses is constructed in Flemish bond brick, while No. 26 is stuccoed, and both have stone rubble rear walls. The end chimneystacks are made of brick, and the roof is covered with natural slate. Each house has a double-depth plan and is one room wide, heated by the end stacks. No. 24 has two rooms at the first-floor level, likely with a flying freehold over the passageway.
The exterior is two storeys high, with No. 24 also having a basement or cellar. The front is almost symmetrical with three windows. No. 26 features a plank front door with a horned 12-pane sash window to the right. No. 24 has a replacement front door with a similar unhorned sash window to the left. There is an open passageway between the front doors. On the first floor, there are three 2-light 8-pane casement windows positioned above the ground-floor sash windows and the passageway entrance. No. 24 has an iron grille over the cellar light, and there are structural tie bars on either side of the passageway. The interior has not been inspected but may contain interesting features.
