Description
The stone cross located approximately 8 metres south of the Church of St Swithun in Sandford is a churchyard cross made of granite, dating from the 14th to 15th century. It stands about 3.25 metres high and is a simple Type B cross set on a socket stone. The shaft is slightly tapering, composed of two parts, and has a square section with chamfered edges and broached stops. The arms of the cross are also chamfered, featuring shallow rectangular indentations between them. The large, partly-buried square socket stone has chamfered corners and broached stops. This cross is a rare example of an intact late medieval cross.
