Description
The chest tomb, located approximately 2.5 metres south of the south aisle of the Church of St Swithin, is likely from the 17th century. It is made of volcanic stone ashlar and features a granite lid. The tomb has a rectangular shape with plain sides and a projecting chamfered cornice. The lid is adorned with a hollow-chamfered moulding on the underside. Any inscription that may have been present has weathered away over time. Below the cornice, there may be some carving or figurative detail. The tomb is noted to sink towards the east and may have been relocated in 1879.
