Description
The building is a granary and cider store located 12 meters south of Shobrooke Barton Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It features English bond brickwork, including occasional burnt headers, set on mainly volcanic rubble footings and faces east. The structure is two storeys high with a slate roof that is hipped at both ends. Access to the first floor is provided by external stone steps located on the north (right-hand) side, where the wall changes angle, cutting off the northwest corner. The granary has a three-window front on each floor, situated to the left of a large ground floor doorway framed in beaded timber. Most windows have vertical slats beneath a narrow glazed top section and are topped with timber lintels. The central ground floor window and the right first floor windows serve as loading bays, also featuring timber lintels. The granary is positioned at an awkward angle in the northern corner of the farmyard, adjacent to the stables, and is part of a larger farmyard complex.
