Description

This stone cross is located above the crossroads approximately 30 metres north-east of the Church of St Cyriac and St Julitta in Newton St Cyres. It features a medieval base and shaft, with a collar and head that were erected in 1897. Made of granite, the base is buried, while the shaft is square at the base and octagonal above, standing approximately 3 metres high. The collar and plain Maltese-style cross were restored by John and Mary Quicke to commemorate the sixtieth year of Queen Victoria's reign, as noted in the inscription at the base. This is classified as a Type B Cross according to Masson-Phillips in "Ancient Crosses of Devon."
