Description
This is a house, likely dating from the 1830s or earlier. It's built with a solid mass wall construction, covered in stucco, and has a slate roof with gabled ends. Chimneys at each side have rendered shafts and old decorative pots. The house is set back from St Peter Street, behind a garden.
The house has a double-depth layout, meaning it’s two rooms wide with a central passage containing the staircase. Each room has its own heating system served by the end stacks.
The front of the house is symmetrical with three bays. The central doorway has a decorative surround with pilasters, sunk panels, and fluted capitals, topped with a cornice. The door is a four-panel design with a fanlight above, featuring margin panes. A glazed porch with a lean-to roof and two-leaf outer doors is set in front of the door. The ground floor windows are 12-pane sash windows of the 19th century, without horn detailing. The central first floor window is similar, while the outer first floor windows are 16-pane sash windows, also dating to the 19th century and without horn detailing.
Inside, the staircase has stick balusters and a ramped mahogany handrail. One panelled door is present. The entrance passage features an unusual round-headed doorway with three lights, including stained glass placed halfway down its length.
