Description
This building is a group of linhays located approximately 20 meters southwest of Penstone Barton, dating from the mid-19th century. They are constructed of cob on rubble footings and timber framing, topped with a red tile roof. The linhays face northeast and align with the curve of the road. There are three sections, each slightly misaligned but sharing the same architectural style, featuring cob rear and end walls with timber framing elsewhere.
On the right end, there is a 5-bay linhay flanking the farm entrance, followed by a central 3-bay section, and on the left end, separated by a cob crosswall, is a 9-bay linhay. All sections are built in the same style (Alcocks Type T1) and now have weatherboarded fronts. The roofs are supported by king post trusses throughout. The cob wall at the rear, which faces the road, is enhanced by a series of pilaster buttresses. These linhays have a strong visual presence, contributing significantly to the character of Penstone Barton Farmhouse and its approach by road.
