Description
Bingwell is a country house, dating from the late 18th century, which has been converted into flats. The house is constructed of stucco, with a dry slate hipped roof featuring a modillion cornice at the front, a cast-iron ogee gutter, and a rendered end stack on the left. It has a double-depth plan and has been altered.
The symmetrical front facade has five windows, with a round-arched central window incorporating a fanlight. The original hornless sash windows retain thin glazing bars. A pedimented doorway with Tuscan columns frames a round-arched entrance with a spoked fanlight above a panelled door with moulded panels. Original four-pane sash windows serve as sidelights. Rusticated window arches are punctuated with keyblocks, and a mid-floor band runs across the facade. The right-hand return displays original sash windows, while the other return has original sashes to the first floor.
The interior was not inspected beyond noting some window shutters, but is believed to have been altered during the conversion. This building has group value, contributing to the character of the surrounding area.
