Description
This is a farmhouse dating to the late 16th and early 17th centuries, significantly altered in the late 19th century, located in Sandford East village. The building is constructed from a combination of plastered cob and rubble, with rubble and brick stacks, and has a slate roof. It is a long, south-facing structure comprised of two distinct sections. The larger section on the left has a left-gable stack, an axial stack to the right of centre, and a rear lateral stack at the right end. The smaller section at the right (east) end is lower in height and originally consisted of a single room. The larger section features a regular three-window front with tall late 19th-century casements, tall panes, and glazing bars, and a six-panel front door with an overlight. The smaller section has a two-window front with smaller late 19th-century two-light casements and a 20th-century door to the left. Inside, the larger section's interior is primarily from the late 19th century, but retains a late 16th or early 17th-century four-panel ceiling featuring moulded intersecting oak beams at the right end. A cob wall, built on rubble footings and covered with a corrugated iron roof, extends a short distance westwards from the left end of the front elevation, then turns southwards along the west side of the front garden.
