Description
Castle Lodge is a lodge for Tiverton Castle, believed to have been built after 1834, likely between 1835 and 1840. It is constructed from local purple volcanic stone rubble and features a slate roof with a brick chimney that has a brick shaft and tapering chimney pots. The building is designed in the Gothick style and has a small rectangular two-room plan heated by rear fireplaces, with a rear service lean-to.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window front. It features a recently renovated Gothick porch with a lead roof and trellis sides. The entrance includes a half-glazed Tudor arched door with arched glazed panels above the middle rail. The windows are also Tudor-arched, consist of two lights, and have timber mullions with recently reinstated leaded panes. The interior has not been inspected but may retain features of interest.
