Description
This is a barn and adjoining byre and poultry house located approximately 15 meters north of Sturridge Farmhouse. It dates from the 16th century or early 17th century, with extensions made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The structure is built of cob on rubble footings, with 19th-century work using mortared volcanic rubble and a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatched. The barn is oriented on an east-west axis and features a small byre with a hayloft added to the east end. There is a 19th-century horse engine house on the north side and a poultry house on the southern side.
On the south side, there is a large barn doorway leading to the threshing floor, located to the left of a byre doorway at the right end, which has a hayloft loading bay above it. A rubble poultry house with a pantile lean-to roof is built onto the front, containing two low feeding hatches with windows above. On the north side, the barn door has slightly projecting midstrey walls to the right and a gable-ended horse engine house to the left. The barn features a three-bay roof supported by side-pegged jointed cruck trusses.
