Description
Number 1 Cross Cottages is a house built around 1840, constructed from plastered rubble or cob, with stone rubble stacks, one of which is disused and the other topped with brick. The house has a slate roof that runs parallel to the street. It features a double-depth plan, facing north, with front and back rooms on either side of a central cross passage. There is a left rear lateral stack and a disused right end stack. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window front with a central doorway. The ground floor has a 20-pane sash window on the left, while the similar window on the right side was replaced by a casement without glazing bars in 1985. The first floor has two sash windows with flat arched heads, and the upper sashes feature a Gothick pattern of glazing bars, including many panes of original glass. The interior contains mid-19th century details, although some internal partitions have been removed. The roof was not inspected.
