Description

Loram Cottage, formerly known as Coplestone House, is a house that likely dates to the 18th century, with modernisations and extensions added around 1975. The walls are plastered cob on rubble footings, with a stone rubble stack and an early 19th-century brick chimney shaft. The roof is thatched. Originally, the house had a two-room plan, facing north, with a stack on the west end. A 20th-century extension, incorporating a porch and garages, is set back and adjoins the west end. A narrow passage runs along the east side of the house, with its own door and a slate roof. The front of the house has a regular, though not symmetrical, three-window arrangement of 20th-century windows. These include two tripartite sashes with central 12-pane sashes on the ground floor, and PVC casements on the first floor. It’s unclear which of the ground-floor windows replaced the original doorway. The roof is hipped at each end. The east passage has its own door and slate roof. The interior has not been inspected.
