Description

The Gables is a cottage, likely dating from the 19th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob or rubble stacks topped with brick and a thatched roof. The cottage originally comprised two rooms, with stacks located in the end walls. It faces southwest and has outshots at each end. The main two-storey facade has a symmetrical arrangement of three windows. The ground floor features C19 and C20 casement windows, each with three lights, while the first floor has two-light casements. A C20 gabled porch with a thatched roof shelters the central entrance door. The three first-floor windows are each set beneath timber-framed thatched gables. The interior retains plain carpentry. A cob-walled outshot to the left has a thatched roof with a hipped end. The front wall of this outshot is now blind but formerly included a door close to the main cottage.
