Description
The Fursdon chest tomb and railings are located about 18 metres northeast of the northeast corner of the aisle of the Church of St Michael and All Angels. This chest tomb, dating from the late 19th century, is made of freestone and features wrought iron railings. The tomb is designed in the medieval Gothic style, with a coped freestone chest that has ridges roll-moulded in the shape of a cross. An inscription in applied metal lettering on the sides commemorates George Fursdon, who died in 1873. Surrounding the chest are low barleysugar iron railings with similar standards, which are topped with iron finials. This tomb is a notable example of late 19th-century design inspired by medieval architecture.
