Description
The lychgate to the Church of St Michael and All Angels was likely built in 1857 by William White, who also restored the church. It features walls made of volcanic trap and freestone that support a gabled slate roof with open timber ends. The walls are reinforced with chamfered stopped posts and moulded braces. The roof is covered with decorative slates, and the ridge tiles are ornately pierced, topped with a wrought iron cross. The gable ends have curly bargeboards and a blind quatrefoil at the apex of each gable. The listing also includes sections of contemporary walling to the west and east of the lychgate. This structure showcases a bold design with high-quality details.
