Description
Thatches is a house, probably from the 18th century, located in Bickleigh. The building is whitewashed and rendered, featuring a thatched roof that is hipped at the right end. It has an axial stack with brick shafts on the right end. The layout is a single depth plan with two main heated rooms on the right and an entrance on the left leading into a narrow room. The house has a flying freehold with an adjacent property on the left that has a first floor projecting over the ground floor of Thatches. It is positioned end on to the street.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has two windows. The front door is located to the left and has a timber lintel, with an additional door leading into the right-hand room. The windows are two-light timber casements, each with two panes per light.
Inside, the fireplace in the axial stack features a chamfered lintel with run-out stops and includes a bread oven. The right-hand room has a chamfered crossbeam with run-out stops. The roof space has not been inspected.
