Description

Nos. 8-14 on Belmont Road in Tiverton is a terrace of four houses built in the mid-19th century. The houses feature red brick fronts, with No. 14 painted, and have patterned red-tiled roofs for Nos. 8, 10, and 12, while No. 14 has an artificial slate roof. Each house has red brick chimneys on the ridge over the party walls between Nos. 8-10, 10-12, and 12-14, with good square sections and tapered red pots. There is also a smaller red brick chimney on the front slope of the roof at the left end of No. 8, which is likely a later addition.

The houses are two storeys tall and each is double-fronted, likely double-depth. The exterior features three windows wide, with a doorway replacing the middle ground-storey window. Most openings have segmental arches, although the left-hand second-storey window-head at No. 8 has been replaced with a flat lintel. The doors have mostly been altered, except for a six-panelled door at No. 14, where the top two panels are now glazed. The upper-storey windows have six-paned sashes in the middle and eight-paned ones on either side. The ground storeys primarily feature small-paned French windows with transom lights, except for an eight-paned sash window at the left end of No. 8.

At No. 10, the right-hand French window has been enlarged and built out as a small glazed porch. A continuous verandah runs across the entire ground storey, featuring a curved glazed pent-roof with decorative iron cresting against the wall face (missing at No. 4) and an open front supported by patterned iron uprights. The interior has not been inspected.
