Description
This chest tomb, located 2 meters from the south aisle of the Church of St Swithin, is likely from the 18th century and may have been repositioned in 1879. It is constructed from volcanic ashlar with a granite lid and features beerstone panels on the long sides, along with some 19th-century brick. The tomb has a rectangular plan with plain sides and a moulded cornice, consisting of an astragal and cavetto, beneath a plain lid that has weathered over time, leaving no trace of the original inscription. The south side has a plain beerstone panel, while the north side includes a panel that commemorates George Tattershall of Pennycott, who died in 1822, and his wife Elizabeth, who died in 1830.
