Description
The barn and stables located to the north-east of Halses date from the late 18th century to the 19th century. The barn is constructed of cob on stone footings with a plastered front and has a corrugated-iron roof that has replaced the original thatch. It faces the road to the east and features nearly-central double doors flanked by sloping buttresses. There is a small, plain, 20th-century wooden-mullioned window positioned high to the right, along with a lancet window in the right gable end. The barn has part of its interior floored for a hayloft, supported by a roof made of halved timbers. The stables are attached at right angles to the rear of the barn, meeting the left front corner of Halses. The back wall of the stables is made of cob, while the front facing the garden of Halses is timber-framed. The stables consist of a three-bay frame and are two stories high, with weatherboarding on the ground floor and an open upper level. Both structures are included for their group value.
