Description
West Efford Cottage is a house that was originally two cottages, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, and was renovated in 1965. The building is constructed of rendered cob on rubble footings, with cob stacks topped with brick and a thatched roof made of wheat reed. The original pair of cottages had mirrored plans around a central framed crosswall. Each cottage is two storeys high with a two-room layout and central doors leading into the larger outer room. There are projecting cob stacks at each end of the building, and the roof is hipped at both ends. The front of the house features four windows, which are 1965 replacement timber casements with six panels per light. There are two doors, both with monopitch tiled roofs added in 1965, and the right door has been moved to the left of its original position. Inside, there are fireplaces with side ovens and some original joinery, although the roof has not been inspected.
