Description
Waie Farmhouse is a large farmhouse built around 1850-1860. It is constructed from snecked local mudstone with ashlar quoins, a plinth, and chimney shafts, topped with a slate roof. The house has a double depth plan under parallel roofs, facing south, with the main rooms located at each end and lobbies, stairs, and a passage in between. It has two storeys and features a symmetrical window arrangement of 1:2:1, primarily consisting of 12-pane sash windows set under segmental arches. The central bay slightly projects forward and contains the main entrance, which features an original six-panel door and a panelled doorcase with fluted consoles supporting a small hood. This doorway is flanked by round-headed fixed pane windows. The farmhouse has unusually deep projecting eaves and retains its original cast iron gutter adorned with lion head masks over the joints. Both roofs are gable-ended, and the chimney shafts have hollow-chamfers at the soffits of the coping. The rear elevation is flat and has a four-window arrangement of 12-pane sashes, with a full-height canted bay window containing 12-pane sashes at the left end. The interior was modernised around 1960.
