Description

Barton House Lodge is a house that was formerly a lodge to Barton House, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of roughly-coursed mudstone rubble, which is plastered at the road end (north) and the rear (east). The building features rubble stacks with brick chimney shafts and has a thatched roof.

The main block has two rooms facing west, with single room blocks projecting at right angles on either end of the back. There is a massive rear lateral stack located between the two rear blocks, and another stack at the right (south) end. This single-storey structure has a four-window front, with a central door that is slightly set forward and flanked by windows on canted sides. The pointed arch-headed two-light windows have Gothick Y-glazing bars and contain iron casements with patterns of leaded glass, most of which is original. The pointed arch Gothick door features two glazed arched windows.

At the right end of the lodge is an original ornate cast iron ventilator. The roof is hipped at each end and extends over a verandah, supported by rustic tree trunk and bole posts. The main stack has an original Tudor-style double chimney shaft with star sections and elaborate caps, although the right side has been slightly rebuilt. The windows and door have brick flat arches above them. Each end of the rear blocks has a pointed Gothick window similar to those on the front. The interior has not been inspected.
