Description
Windsor House is a house that was formerly two cottages, likely built in the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with stone rubble stacks topped with 20th-century brick, and has a slate roof. The house has a three-room layout facing south. The left room, which has a rear lateral stack and is separated from the rest of the house by a cob wall, was originally a one-room cottage. The middle room features a 20th-century rear lateral stack, while the right room has a projecting end stack and a 20th-century extension at the back.
The house is two storeys high and has a regular but not symmetrical four-window front, showcasing a mix of late 19th and early 20th-century casements with glazing bars. There is a 19th-century four-panel front door with a flat-roofed hood located to the right of centre, and a window to the left of centre that blocks the former doorway to the left room. The roof is gable-ended. Inside, the house primarily displays 19th-century features, although the lintels of both original fireplaces have been replaced. The left room contains a roughly-finished crossbeam. Coleford is noted for being a remarkably unspoilt and picturesque hamlet.
