Barn Approximately 3 Metres North East Of Court Hall Farmhouse

HOCKWORTHY HOCKWORTHY ST 01 NW 4/85 Barn approximately 3 metres north- - east of Court Hall Farmhouse GV II Barn. Late C17 and C18. Local stone rubble; corrugated iron roof, formerly thatch. Plan: former double threshing barn, now used for storage. Long block facing onto the entrance courtyard to the south-west. Formerly it contained 2 threshing barns of about equal size separated by a full beight stone wall. Either side of this dividing wall were the threshing floors although most of the main doorways have since been blocked. The roofs over each barn is slightly different, the right one earlier in character. Exterior: originally there was a pair of central full height front doorways onto the threshing floors but both are now blocked. The right doorway is weatherboarded. The left one is partly blocked in stone rubble but also by a shallow projecting bay. The present doorways are C19 or C20; a small one near the right end and a garage doorway near the left end. Under the eaves of the left end section are a couple of rows of pigeon holes with projecting landing shelves below. Roof is gable-ended. Interior: of each barn is open to the roof. The right barn roof is carried on a series of A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars and butt purlins. The left barn roof is carried on similar trusses but here with spiked and pegged lap- jointed collars and trenched purlins. This barn forms part of an attractive group associated with Court Hall Farmhouse (q.v).
