Description

HOCKWORTHY ST 01 NW 4/76 Waterslade Cottage - GV II

Cottage. Late C17 - early C18, thoroughly renovated circa 1980. Plastered stone rubble; the stacks have been demolished and replaced with C20 concrete blocks; thatch roof. Plan: 3-room plan cottage facing south. In fact the left end room is a store and open to the roof. Thus the cottage proper has a 2-room plan with central entrance and staircase between the rooms. Each room has an outer end stack. 2 storeys. Exterior: the main cottage has a symmetrical 2-window front of circa 1980 aluminium framed casements arranged around a central front doorway which contains a C19 plank door behind a C20 thatch-roofed porch on rustic posts. A third aluminum window ground floor left. Roof is hipped to left end and gable-ended to right. Interior: was just about completely rebuilt circa 1980 with plain carpentry and joinery detail. The roof however is late C17 - early C18, a series of A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. Waterslade Cottage forms an attractive group with nearby Waterslade Farmhouse (q.v).
