Description
A terrace of eight small houses, dating to the 1830s, with a possible earlier core at the southern end. The construction is of mass wall form, with some areas smooth rendered and others roughcast. The roofs are natural slate, and the chimneystacks have brick shafts, with some original crown-topped pots remaining.
The houses are primarily one room wide and one room deep, with rear service lean-tos, some of which project to two storeys. Houses 1-11 are heated by rear lateral chimney stacks, while houses 13 and 15 have end stacks. A service lane is accessible off Newport Street, and house number 1 has a cartway entrance from Castle Street.
The front of the terrace has an asymmetrical arrangement of windows: a 1:2:1:1:1:1:2:2 window front, with recessed 20th-century front doors. Most windows at numbers 1-11 are casement windows, with the glazing bars largely intact, and some incorporating square leaded panes. A late 19th/early 20th-century four-pane sash window is located at number 1 on the ground floor. Windows at numbers 5-11 are three-light iron casement windows, potentially original, with removable centre lights. Numbers 13 and 15 feature triple keystones above the ground-floor openings, and single keystones above the first-floor windows, which contain glazed sashes – original 16-pane sashes are present at number 15. A central passageway runs between numbers 13 and 15.
The interior has not been inspected.
