Description

A late 18th century terrace of three houses located on Newport Street in Tiverton. The buildings are of mass wall construction, faced with stucco and have slate roofs. The stacks feature brick shafts, corbelled cornices and decorative chimneypots, with cast-iron rainwater goods.

The terrace comprises three distinct properties: number 18, a brasserie; number 20, a bakery; and number 22, a private house. Number 18 has a three-bay front, number 20 a two-bay front, and number 22 a single-bay front. All have C20 entrance doors. Number 18 features two or three-light casement windows with glazing bars, while number 20 retains two original 12-pane horned sash windows at the first floor level. Number 22 originally had a shop front, but this has been replaced by a plate glass window.

Number 18 has a steeply pitched, hipped roof and a skylight, with three iron ties visible at the first floor level. Numbers 20 and 22 have slightly lower roof lines. The rear return of number 22 has a four-pane horned sash window on the ground floor and a three-pane casement window above.

The buildings appear to have a double-depth plan, with a cobbled passage running between numbers 20 and 22 to the rear. Number 18 has an axial stair. The interiors have not been inspected, but may contain original features.
