Description
The byre and cartshed, built around 1877, is located approximately 10 metres north-west of Chawleigh Barton. It is constructed of exposed local stone rubble and features a slate roof. The building is a gable-ended range facing south-west, with a cartshed at the right end, byres with a hayloft above in the centre, and a tallet at the left end. The front has a wide carriageway leading to the cartshed on the right, and two doorways to the byres, all topped with segmental arches. Between the byre doorways is a hayloft loading hatch. External wooden steps at the left end provide access to an open-fronted tallet, which has a door below leading to a small store. The doors are made of upright planks that taper in width towards the top, creating a ventilator grille. This building is included for its group value.
