Description
No. 16, The Mint is a small house within an early 19th-century terrace. It is constructed of painted Flemish bond brick with an asbestos slate roof and cast iron rainwater goods. The house has a plan consisting of a main range, one room wide and double in depth, with an added scullery/washroom to the rear. The front door is located on the right-hand side, leading to a passage, and a straight flight staircase rises centrally behind the front room. Chimneystacks are situated on both the right and left sides of the building.
The two-window front is two storeys high and has an eaves board. A six-panel door is positioned on the right side, with a rectangular overlight featuring two vertical glazing bars. A porch hood is supported by brackets above the door, and a boot scraper is located to its left. The windows are 12-pane hornless sash windows with flat arches throughout.
The rear wall of the main range is part of the structure of the red Heavitree stone chimneystack belonging to St Nicholas’s Priory. The house forms part of a terrace row.
