Description
St Nicholas' Priory is a Grade I listed building located at The Mint, dating back to 1092. Originally re-founded under a charter from William II, it was granted to Sir Thomas Dennis during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Until recently, the building was used as tenements but has since been purchased by the City and restored as a show place.
The structure features a Norman undercroft, a medieval hall, and a Tudor room with a plaster ceiling and an oriel window. It is constructed from red sandstone and has slate roofs. Notable architectural elements include a Norman and a Tudor doorway, as well as two open timber roofs from the 16th century.
