Description
21 The Mint is a 2-storey and attic stone building that is part of St Nicholas Priory, believed to have been the Refectory. The building features ancient masonry, relieving arches, and buttresses, along with a 3-light oriel window. A modern brick wall now stands at the road where an arch once crossed the street until about 1850. A projecting external stone chimney has been recently rebuilt in flush brickwork. Internally, there is said to be an open 15th-century roof, and there may be other undiscovered features. The building has additions from the 18th century and other periods. The main front has four windows, mostly sashes with glazing bars, and the slate roof includes two dormers. There is a plaque commemorating George Oliver, who lived here from 1807 to 1861.
