Description

The Ship Inn is a building that dates back to the 16th century but has been extensively altered and rebuilt in the 19th century and modern times. It has three storeys and four windows, with mostly modern features, although there are some 18th-century sash windows present. The front of the building has been considerably altered and restored, featuring an overhanging timber structure with one gable. The carved work at the first-floor level is not very convincing, and the central part of the front and the treatment of the ground floor appear to be quite recent. The building has a slate roof and is said to have been frequented by Sir Francis Drake.
