Description
36 Fore Street is a late 17th and early 18th century building in Topsham. It is constructed of stone, with a plastered gable end facing the street. The upper portions of the front are slate-hung, and there are rusticated quoins. The building has two storeys and an attic. It has two 19th-century sash windows. An early 19th century fascia covers the entrance to the shop, alongside a glazed door. A dentil cornice runs along the top, and the slate roof is punctuated by dormers. The building extends to the rear and shares characteristics with the merchants’ houses along the strand. A well-preserved panelled doorcase is a notable feature. 36 Fore Street contributes to the group value of the listed buildings along Fore Street.
