Description
Nos 47 and 48 Fore Street consist of mid-19th century stucco fronts applied to older buildings, with No. 48 originally constructed around 1708. The buildings feature gabled fronts of differing sizes, incorporating contemporary shops. They extend to two storeys and attics, with two lower ground or cellar storeys facing Ferry Road at the rear. The roof is of old grouted slate, with gabled dormers, and the chimneys are built with 2-inch bricks. The rear elevation of No. 48 is four storeys high, with a four-window arrangement and 18th-century sash windows. It contains a mid-19th century shop front, a panelled interior, and contemporary fittings. The listed buildings on Fore Street form a group.
