Description

The gates and gatepiers to Digby Hospital were built between 1882 and 1886. They are made of red brick with a stone-dressed plinth, featuring cast iron gates and railings. The outer brick piers have stone plinths, bonding, and coping. The railings follow a concave line and are topped with spear points. The piers have finials and include central pedestrian gates, although the carriage gates have been removed. This structure is part of the Lunatic Asylum designed by architect R. Stark Williamson for Exeter City Council.
