Description
Cricklepit Mill is a 17th or 18th century mill featuring two wheels, with 19th century machinery. The building is constructed of brick and has a corrugated iron roof, with a partly timber frame interior. It stands two storeys tall with attics. The gable end facing the yard has two ground floor casement windows and one first floor casement window, all with glazing bars. There are also one ground floor and one first floor two-leaf loading door, along with a fixed casement window with glazing bars above the door. The steep gable includes two casements. On the return side towards the higher leat, there are blocked ground floor arched openings and three first floor tripartite fixed casements with glazing bars. The ground floor features a two-leaf loading door and a single leaf loading door on the first floor. Inside, the mill has pegged principal rafters and through purlins. An undershot fed waterwheel is present, with its gearing disconnected but still in place. The mill was formerly used for corn and grist milling. A secondary wheel is attached within a pit to the east, but the temporary building housing it is not of special interest.
