Description
83 and 84 Queen Street were built as the principal post office in 1849 and 1864. This is a high three-storey building with a three-window carved stone front. The ground floor features rustications and vermiculations, with three openings that have segmental arches and heraldic keystones. The upper floors are designed in an elaborate Corinthian order, topped with a balustraded parapet. There are three sash windows with glazing bars set in heavy architraves. The roof is not visible. This building is part of a group that includes Gandy Street Nos 12 and 14, as well as Nos 74 to 91 (consecutive) and the Queen's Hotel.
