Description
Cottles Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century or 18th century. It is primarily constructed of roughcast cob on stone footings, with the rear wing made of 'popples' (flint pebbles). The roof has gabled ends and is partly thatched and partly slate. The original layout was likely a two-room, through-passage plan, with a right-hand extension and a rear wing added in the 19th century. There is an external end stack with a bake oven bulge to the left. The building has two storeys and features an irregular three-window range on the front. The first floor has two-light casement windows, while the ground floor has two two-light casement windows and a half-glazed door set to the right of centre. The right-hand side elevations contain two-light 19th-century casement windows. Inside, the straight principals of the original roof are positioned low in the walls, although the roof space has not been inspected.
