Description
North Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century, which was remodeled in the late 18th century. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble and features a slate roof with gabled ends. The building is two storeys high and has a long range of three windows, which are sashes with glazing bars. There is a glazed door to the right of the centre, accompanied by a modern gabled porch. The farmhouse has rendered ridge and end chimney stacks.
At the rear, there is a semi-circular stair tower next to a heavy timber door frame leading to a cross passage with a cambered head. The layout includes a 17th-century wing at the rear and an 18th-century wing at right angles to it, forming an L-shaped plan. The 17th-century wing features a six-light chamfered mullion window in the gable end, while the 18th-century wing has 17th-century three-light casements with leaded panes.
Inside, the farmhouse boasts jointed cruck trusses and a cross passage with a plank and muntin screen, which has the later date and initials "SP 1766" carved on it. There is an inserted stone stack backing onto the cross passage, with a cambered chamfered bressumer. The ceiling beams are stopped and chamfered, and there is a newel staircase at the rear with a plank and muntin screen at the top, featuring a cambered head doorway.
