Description
Middle Stidston is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century or 17th century and was remodeled in the early 19th century. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble and cob, topped with an asbestos slate roof featuring half-hipped and gabled ends. The building likely has a three-room layout with a cross or through passage, and it has been extended at the higher (right-hand) end, which includes projecting rear lateral stacks and a stair turret at the back of the former hall. The southeast (left) end has been demolished and was likely the service end or shippon. The farmhouse stands two storeys high and has a six-window range, featuring early 19th-century sashes with glazing bars, as well as 19th and 20th-century casements. There is a cross-passage doorway to the left of centre that slightly projects, featuring a panelled and glazed door, along with a very small pointed arch slit window in the left-hand return. Inside, there is a simple early 19th-century staircase with stack balusters located in the rear stair turret. The ceiling beams are chamfered and plastered over, and the fireplaces have been blocked. Much of the early 19th-century joinery remains, including several panelled doors.
