Description
Stidston is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with an early 19th-century extension. The original part of the building is a long stone rubble range located at the rear (northwest) and features a gable-ended asbestos slate roof with heightened eaves and a projecting rear lateral chimney stack with set-offs. It likely originally had a three-room layout with a through passage.
At the front, there is a symmetrical two-storey, three-bay addition from the early 19th century. This extension has a hipped asbestos slate roof and is stuccoed, with rusticated quoins and a band, as well as a slate-hung side wall. It includes sash windows with glazing bars, a central panelled door, and a Doric open porch with fluted columns, which was taken from another house. The chimney stacks are located at the sides of this early 19th-century addition.
Inside, the original range features an open fireplace on the rear wall with a new wooden lintel set on granite jambs. There is also a fireplace at the southwest end of the rear range that has a chamfered wooden lintel.
