Description

Gilletts Farmhouse is a circa early 16th century stone rubble farmhouse. It has a thatched roof with gabled and hipped ends and eyebrow eaves. The south front has a four-window range, featuring large modern metal frame casements with concrete lintels. A doorway, off-centre, has a plank door leading to a cross passage, and a modern conservatory is attached to the front. Central and end chimney stacks are visible. The north elevation includes a heavy timber doorframe to the cross passage, featuring a two-centred arch and plank door, along with old leaded pane casements. Circa 17th or 18th century wings extend to the left and right, creating a half-H shaped plan with half-hipped roofs. The interior contains jointed cruck trusses with smoke-blackening, a massive timber bressummer to the fireplace at the lower end, an Adam style chimneypiece in the central fireplace, a shouldered arch in a timber frame screen at the upper end, and stopped chamfer ceiling beams with run-out stops.
