Description

Archway Bookshop is a small stone rubble building dating from around the 18th century or earlier. It has a steeply pitched tarred slate roof with gabled ends and stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring one bay. The first floor has a sash window with glazing bars, where the top panes have intersecting glazing bars. The ground floor includes a medieval moulded two-centred arch doorway, which is said to have originated from Newenham Abbey. There is a blocked carriageway with a segmental arch that has a similar sash window inserted as on the first floor. A brick chimney stack is located at the gable end, and there is a roof light in the attic. The interior does not contain any early features.
