Description

Illey headstone, located approximately 8 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1719 in memory of Charles ? Illey. This headstone is made of limestone and features an upright slab that stands about 1 metre high with a shaped head. The front of the slab bows out slightly and is set within a bolection-moulded frame that is topped with a foliate festoon. The inscription, which is very worn, is in upper and lower case Roman serif lettering and commemorates the death of Charles ? Illey in 1719.
