Description
This is a churchyard cross located approximately 9 meters south of the nave of the Church of St Michael in Clyst Honiton. It was erected in 1881 and incorporates a shaft that likely dates back to the 15th century. The cross is made of granite and stands a little over 3 meters high. The medieval shaft is square at the base with chamfered edges and roll stops, tapering slightly towards the top. The head, added in 1881, is a plain Latin cross. The socket stone has a chamfered top edge and features an inscription noting that the cross was restored in 1881 in memory of Abraham and Jane Smith of Treasbeare. The base consists of three octagonal steps, with the middle riser displaying a Biblical quotation. Before its restoration, the shaft was reportedly used as a seat at Treasbeare.
