Description

The British Legion Hall, formerly known as the Child Welfare Centre and Reading Room, is located on the west side of School Street in Sidford. This building dates back to the 18th century and is part of a row that includes Nos 3 to 7 School Street. It is two storeys high with a cob thatched roof. A notable feature is the fine external stone chimney, which has a vertical break to the stacks and offsets. There is a date tablet that is partially obscured, showing "16". The hall has two pivot sash windows with glazing bars and a plain cottage door. The British Legion Hall, along with Nos 1 to 7 (consecutive), Nos 8 to 12 (consecutive), and Crossways Cottage, forms a group of buildings of architectural interest.
