Description
Old Larkshayes is a house dating from the early 16th century, with alterations from the 17th century and early 19th century. It features datestones on the chimney reading "162-" and "WN 1815". The building is constructed of stone rubble and has a thatched roof with gabled ends. It is two storeys high and has a long range of three windows. The 19th-century windows are three and four light casements with glazing bars. There is an off-centre plank door leading to a modern glazed porch. The house has a central stone ridge stack and brick end stacks, one of which has datestones. At the rear, there is an outshut with a thatched catslide roof, now enclosed by a small wooden two-light chamfered mullion window frame.
Inside, there is a Tudor arched door leading to a cross passage, which features a plank and muntin screen. Another arched doorway and plank door screen on one side have been removed to insert a chimney. The interior retains two jointed cruck trusses and has an inserted floor with stopped chamfered ceiling beams. There are open fireplaces with chamfered bressumers, one of which has stone jambs. A stone chimneypiece has been reset and features a moulded Tudor arch.
