Description

This is a circa 1800 stone house, originally the premises of Gribble Booth and Taylor, and later known as Lynton House. It has a low-pitched slate roof with stone coped gable ends, moulded eaves, and stone bards at floor levels. The building is three storeys high, with three bays. It features sash windows with glazing bars, each set under a flat stone arch. The central ground floor window is round arched, with rusticated voussoirs and a bracketed surround. To the left is a well-preserved early 19th-century shop front, featuring Roman Doric fluted columns supporting an entablature and a doorway with large pilasters decorated with an incised key motif. On the right, an elliptical arched carriageway, also with rusticated voussoirs, has been blocked, and a modern doorway inserted.
