Description
Barton House is a 17th century building, with some earlier elements, believed to date from 1559. It is two storeys high and constructed partly of cob with a thatched roof. The central feature is a projecting two-storey gabled porch made of stone, which has a four-centred moulded stone architrave and a Tudor dripstone. Above the porch is a three-light leaded casement window with stone mullions and a dripstone. The gable is topped with stone coping. There is a modern rear wing added to the structure.
Inside, the house features a timber-framed crosswall and hewn roof members, along with a door that has fielded panels. The first-floor room in the porch boasts arch-braced roof principals and massive ovolo moulding on the window mullions.
Barton House and Little Barton are noted as forming a group.
